Media City Salford Evaluation

The purpose of this post is to highlight and show my discoveries and new knowledge about the skills and techniques that are required in different media platforms in many different big branded media studios such as BBC and ITV. I believe that this media studies trip was very educational and exciting to take part in as I was shown some very technical ways which the presenters discuss and talk about different news stories; such as being aided by a teleprompter which gives the person all the lines they have to say on live television. Another discovery that I was shown was the amount of money it costs for a company to create either a TV show or for the news, in contrast to the amount of money the cameras that were being used costed £150,000 for each one of them. Overall the tour of media city was very interesting and exciting as I got to see the behind the scenes and the creating of the massive productions of the shows that many millions watch everyday.
This image shows some of the buildings that are included in Salford Media City such as BBC and ITV.

This image shows the entrance to the main building were our tour started before seeing all the other buildings and offices.

This image was by far the most shocking as this is a space for companies and businesses to create a television show or series, this image also shows the room being plain and unmodified due to not having a special painted floor and the black curtains not being made.

This image shows the recording studio which offers high end and expensive equipment that gives clear and crisp sound to the listeners of the radio show, but also one computer on the desk can control all the music and timings that are used when the radio show is live.

  1. Hi Alex,
    well done.
Nice 'short' review. Any more comments you can add to this?
Has the tour given you more of an in depth view of the various jobs available in TV too?
The background people, writers, lighting etc - explain further please.
Remember this will really assist you when you revise for your exams.

  2. Could expand on some of the points made and maybe make more about the actual filming set ups and anything that supprised you from the way the studio works behind scene, for instance the number of people that it takes, the specialist jobs or just how big or small some of the studios where.
